It just came to me one day. A vision of vans shoes covered in moss, and maybe flowers. I knew I wanted to keep it as natural as possible, so I did.
Preserved moss, and dried daisies were used, along with a glue gun. In honesty, it was simple to execute once I had sourced everything. I created a template by sketching out the shapes by laying a paper over the shoes. Sort of like a tailor does. When I had the paper template, I traced it out on the back of the moss sheet, and cut it out easy enough.
Now the real question is though...are they wearable? Do they hold up. There was one way to find out! I've worn them a handful of times and they've held up beautifully! Of course, I'm gentle taking them off and putting them on. One of them could use a touch up on the crease but that's to be expected.
Sure, I could've just framed them to admire them, but that's not what I'm about. Shoes are meant to be worn, creased even, and enjoyed. This is why wearable and functional art draws me in. It is so much more enjoyable to be able to consume art and not just feast on it with our eyes, or do you think otherwise?
